The children in EYFS have been learning about Christmas and how different people celebrate Christmas all around the world. This week we put on our Christmas show for our families. We learnt songs in different languages. All of the grown ups are really proud!
Pikes Lane welcomed a very special visitor to the school on Tuesday...Cinderella! We enjoyed a fabulous pantomine performance of this enchanting traditional tale. We loved listening to the magical story and participating in the singing and story telling. Below are some pictures of scenes from the show. Can you talk about the characters, events and settings in the story. Perhaps you could have a go at re-telling the story with your grown-ups? We would love to see your comments below. Can you tell us about your favourite part of the story or your favourite character and why? Can you talk about the sequence of events in the Jack and the Beanstalk story...? Reception have been busy practising their songs for the christmas performance. Below are each classes song and some lyrics to practise. It's a Small World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbIhYhrOJAg and We Wish you a Merry Christmas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKsNAeYIsAk Please copy and paste the link into your web page!! Happy singing!! On Friday we talked about what we want to be when we grow up. We had some special visitors in assembly who talked about their jobs. Faz is a fantastic musician, but when he was at school he was told to stop playing the violin. We heard him play and we're all glad he didn't give up! Part of having a growth mindset is never giving up, and our boys and girls are brilliant at this! We also talked about where we like to learn best. Some of the boys and girls like learning outside, some of them like learning inside, some of them like to build, some of them like to draw and some of them like to get messy. We challenged the boys and girls to find a partner to get 'handcuffed' to for the afternoon and they then had to talk and work together to learn without breaking their paper handcuffs! Keep it up, everyone!
Ladybirds have won the beat the bell trophy this week. Miss Haydon is really proud because Ladybirds have won a trophy in assembly for 3 weeks running! Busy Bees also won class of the week. Well done, everyone! Keep it up!
We had a spotacular day for Children in Need! All of the boys, girls and grown ups wore spotty clothes and donated money to help Pudsey Bear to help people not as lucky as us. The children learnt about Pudsey, and talked about being kind. Everyone has helped to create a kind hands tree, made friendship bracelets, coloured or painted a Pudsey, and practised having kind hands by giving friends a massage. This week the Reception children have been investigating the 'who pushed Humpty Dumpty?' incident. On Thursday the children came into school to be told the shocking news that somebody had pushed Humpty Dumpty off the wall. The children had the task of investigating the nursery rhyme clues to solve the mystery. We are pleased to say that Jack and Jill were apprehended and Humpty Dumpty is now recovering in bed. Well done children for super police work, drawing 'wanted' posters and writing police reports. This week is National Nursery Rhyme Week so we have lots of exciting rhyming activities at school. Comment below to tell us your favourite nursery rhyme!
Reception children went to the school achievement assembly for the first time this week. Miss Deakin and Miss Haydon had the tricky task of choosing just one star of the week each. Ladybirds also won the 'Beat the Bell' trophy for being on time all week! Well done to our superstars!
