One of our Community Volunteers Hannen Omami has taken some super pictures of the children hard at work. They are so good, we wanted to share them with you.
We have had 4 great classes today. As requested by pupils on the blog, children have been baking superhero biscuits, following the recipe and looking at logos. Mrs Whittingham has been working to create their City Scape and Miss Birch following the science topic. Our players from the Hallé Orchestra have been in working on The Ride of the Valykries. Don't forget it is our trip on June 11th. We are setting off at 9.30am promptly.
Today children have participated in four workshops and enjoyed some lovely sunshine during playtime.
The Global Policing Team have been in to do Superhero Cleudo with the groups. Miss Deakin has been looking at super hero foods, such as fruit and vegetable tasting and the children have been designing their own superheroes made out of vegetables. Miss Witham has been researching parachutes and designing whilst Miss Birch's Group have been looking at 'friction.' Can anybody tell me what 'Friction' is? What an exciting week!!!
Today we have been designing our very own superhero city ready to make them on the 7th May! Please remember to bring along plenty of cardboard boxes to paint and cut to make your city look fab! We have also been writing extremely detailed descriptions of superheroes and working out some super hard mathematical questions using the secret formula - speed=distance/time! Don't forget we are not in next week due to the bank holiday so we shall see you all in 2 weeks time! :) We have had a great week at Shine. Alison has been working with the children creating a puppet workshop, making superhero masks. Small groups have been designing hand puppets and trying to decide where to go for our end of shine reward trip, taking a democratic vote.
Miss Deakin has discussing how to use persuasive devices to talk about who is 'the Supreme Superhero'. The children used what they had learned to persuade their audience that their superhero was the best. They were able to use lots of powerful adjectives, researched evidence and bags of emotion to convince the others. Some children extended their argument by asking rhetorical questions. So, who do you think is the Supreme Superhero? Miss Birch has been looking at speeds of humans, animals and vehicles and children have researched this. In the coming weeks the children will be creating their own superhero vehicle so learning about speed is very important. We have also had a bbq outside for lunch. We have come back to Shine full of excitement and we are raring to go!
Our new theme is all about superheroes. We have learnt about characteristics of different superheroes, thought about superhero powers and strengths and we also went outside to test our very own strength and agility! It has been a great day today! Well done to all of you that came along! |
