We have had a very busy sports week at school! The boys and girls have learnt some new gymnastic moves with Miss Hilton, played coneball with a coach from Bolton College, had a mini athletics competition with Mr Higgins and learnt lots about keeping healthy as well as playing lots of sports and games outside.

We had an amazing EYFS Sports Day! The boys and girls competed in running, dressing up, space hopper and bat and beanbag races. The parents and teachers had their own races too! We had a special day in EYFS learning all about being healthy. We started the day off with a fun dance session! Then we had 4 different activities: using knives and forks carefully, hand washing and germs, making healthy sandwiches and building dens. During the afternoon we had a yoga session and talked about relaxing. Everyone has had a great day! The children began our new 'London' theme by learning about the Queen and the royal family. They enjoyed dressing as royals in 'Buckingham Palace' and building castles. We explored the different forms of London transport one might take to get to Buckingham Palace. Reception had a great day camping today! The sun was shining for us and the children's behaviour was impeccable! We pitched tents and told camp stories, played football, explored the equipment in the playground and did some bark rubbings to look at the patterns in the environment. Then we had a picnic lunch! The children and grown ups have had a great day!
The children have been building dens outside today, showing great imagination and perseverance!
After the news last week about Theresa May thinking about lifting the ban on fox hunting, some of the Reception children discussed this. This links to Understanding the World: showing care and concern for living things.
Aisha Siddiqa told her mum all about it and she has written and posted a letter to her to ask her to change her mind! 'Dear Mrs May Please do not shoot the foxes because they are important. From Aisha Siddiqa' What an exciting day we had today! Outdoor survival expert Glenn came to visit us to talk about what skills we need to survive in the wild. Glenn shared with us the three things we need to survive outdoors:- shelter, water and food.We learned how to build a shelter, make a fire and filter water. We talked about fire safety and using sharp things with care. We finished our day with an assembly from Glenn where he spoke about his own outdoor adventures from around the world and urged us all to get outdoors and have our own adventures in our beautiful countryside. We have some budding builders in Reception! After reading the story 'Bog Baby', the children have worked together to build a new home for the big baby. Great construction and teamwork boys!
The children in the story made homes for their bog baby, but he got sick because he was a wild animal and they couldn't care for him. The reception children discussed this and decided that the kind thing to do would be to put the bog baby back in the magic pond in bluebell wood. |
