Did you know that Pikes Lane School consume over 50,000 cartons of milk every year? An average Pikes Lane child will consume over 1000 cartons of milk during their time at school! Previously our empty cartons would be thrown into the general waste and sent off to landfill. The Litterbusters! are now taking charge of milk carton recycling and our new Milk Monitors will make a daily check of milk recycling in each classroom ready for Mr Adams to collect each day. Thank you to the LitterBusters! and Mr Adams for helping us to recycle Congratulations to Fatima Ghanchi who recently received the prestigious and highly sought after green Blue Peter badge. Green badges are awarded for sending in letters, pictures and projects that are about the environment, conservation or nature. Fatima contacted Blue Peter to tell them about about the work she and her friends do in LitterBusters! looking after her school environment. Well done Fatima, keep up the good work!
Today Pikes Lane welcomed Lisa and Wayne from Bolton Council who joined us in assembly to announce the 'Love Rumworth Big Tidy' competition winners. Lisa and Wayne brought with them the Recycle Cup. This year is the first year that the competition has included the Recycle Cup, awarded to the school who collects and sorts the most recyclable materials on the Big Tidy day. We are thrilled to announce that the first winners of the Recycle Cup are Pikes Lane! Well done to all children, staff and helpers involved in the competition who worked so hard to make our local environment tidy and litter free.
The children who took part in the competition will receive their own personal certificate and a set of recycling fridge magnets. Friday 15th April saw the first visit of the LitterBusters! to ESSA Academy. The LitterBusters! worked in partnership with Year 7 students to look after the grounds, litter picking and talking to the students about the importance of looking after the environment. The children stayed for lunch at ESSA after working hard collecting litter. Thank you to ESSA staff and students for making us feel so welcome. The LitterBusters! represented Pikes Lane school admirably, displaying impeccable behaviour and bags of enthusiasm. Pikes Lane LitterBusters! are pleased to welcome students from ESSA Academy! Each Friday the Year 7 students, along with Mr Carney, have been helping the LitterBusters! to keep the school environment litter free by collecting litter and helping with paper recycling. Thank you for your help guys, the school looks immaculately clean and litter free - together we really can be, the best!
Well done to Fatima. P and Khadijah from 5CB for their inspiring 'anti-litter' poster. The poster slogan highlights
how much we love our home town of Bolton and the images drawn remind us all to look after our environment by dropping our litter in the bin. Super work girls! |
