Please come and see Miss Haydon or Mrs Wallace at school if you don't have a dentist and we can get a voucher for your child.
We are learning about keeping healthy, and this week we are talking about teeth! We learnt about foods that are good and bad for teeth, and what happens to teeth if we eat too much sugar or don't brush our teeth. Quite a few of the boys and girls said they have had a filling at the dentist. Let's work together to make sure that we don't have any more! Today we brushed our teeth after lunch. Remember that you need to brush all of your teeth, even those tricky ones at the back, and we should use a toothpaste with fluoride in to help keep our teeth strong. We have been using our funky fingers to clean pretend teeth, role played being a dentist, doctor and nurse, and sorted foods that are good or bad for our teeth (while practising our cutting!). We listened to music to make sure we brushed our teeth for a full two minutes! Don't forget to brush your teeth every morning and every night!

This week we have had fire fighters and police officers in to talk about their jobs.
We learnt about their uniforms and some of the work they do. We also learnt that boys and girls can do these jobs! The children thought of questions to ask our Very Important Visitors and some of them even wrote their questions! We have done lots of super writing after our VIVs have been, like writing a list of the uniform Miss Haydon had to wear when the fire fighters came to school. What job would you like to do when you grow up? We have been gardening this week in EYFS. The children helped to weed the flower bed and then we planted some bulbs and seeds.
Our new theme was chosen by the children as they were so interested in the emergency services! Today we were lucky enough to have a visit from firefighters in their fire engine! We looked at all of the equipment and the firemen explained some of the jobs they have to do, like putting out fires and rescuing people after car accidents. We looked at the tools they use to cut cars, the special metal sand they add to the water to cut through walls, the hoses, the big fan to blow smoke away and the tall ladders. We all had a turn using the hose and we even got to sit in the fire engine!
We had a special delivery in Reception a few weeks ago... 5 very hungry caterpillars arrived looking like this! They have been eating and growing and we have been watching them carefully... Look how much they've grown! Miss Haydon is looking after them for the holidays so make sure you check back for updates... Who can remember the life cycle of a caterpillar? What is going to happen to them next? After 2 weeks of eating, the caterpillars have hung upside down in a 'J' shape and are starting to form their cocoon! The caterpillars all formed their cocoons and have now been moved to their hatching habitat. Can you see the cocoon wiggling in the video? It is warning off predators! We have butterflies! We have 4 butterflies now and we have been thinking of some names for them... Have you got any suggestions? The children have been challenged to write their suggestions on a post it! The butterflies are growing stronger and enjoy fruit juice and nectar. We are going to release them later this week!
A big warm welcome to all our families who have been joining us for Family Eco Art. What is Eco Art? Eco art is artwork created by an artist concerned with the state of our environment. Reception children and their grown-ups have been learning to re-use and recycle materials in creative and innovative ways during Family Eco Art Club. Each week the children have been using junk to create inspiring and original pieces of art and other creative projects.
Eco art can help to teach us about environmental problems. It can help us to find ways to respect our environment. Click on the buttons below to have a go at making these projects yourself! |
