Today was our Year 2 trip to Brockholes in Preston. It was a very big nature reserve and we were all extremely excited to go! We came to school ready and raring to go! Here are some pictures to show what we got up to... Throughout the day we joined in with many exciting activities.
First of all we had a short lesson about Brockholes Nature reserve, what it is and what types of animals live around there. Then we learnt how to make a fire without using matches or lighters! We made dens in the woodland using large logs! We were great collaborative learners! We got a little bit of time to play in the park before and after we ate our lunch. We worked in groups to make a piece of 'Environmental Art' They were AMAZING! We made 'Tree Spirits' out of clay and left them at Brockholes. Finally we got our hands well and truly muddy and created a Pikes Lane banner with our muddy handprints surrounding it! What a fantastic day! As always 2LW, I was so impressed with your behaviour! Well done. You really did me proud! Why don't you leave a comment about your favourite part of the day or something that you enjoyed doing? Miss Witham :) On Wednesday, we came to school to find lilly pads absolutely everywhere! The school was such a mess! They were outside, and there was even some inside the classrooms! We weren't quite sure what had happened so an important assembly was called at 9am! We saw some detectives walking around, they too were trying to figure out what had happened but nobody seemed to know! Mr Bradley interviewed some children to see if they had seen anything suspicious! Some children blamed Mr Bradley and some even blamed me! Can you believe that?!? We went back to class to investigate these mysterious goings on... This week Mischa and Hassaan have been carrying out their responsibilities as our class representatives for School Council. They have a few questions for you 2LW, please answer them and make our school a better place... 1) What do you think about behaviour at Pikes Lane? 2) Do you like the Star of the Week tea party? 3) Do you like the idea of getting Star of the Week? 4) Do you like the idea of getting Star of the Term? 5) What do you think about achievement assembly on Friday afternoons? 6) What could we do to improve behaviour at Pikes Lane? 7) What happens if you are put on Amber on the traffic lights? Please comment, be honest and we will tell people what you think. Mischa and Hassaan have another meeting on Tuesday 10th May. Thank you, Miss Witham 😀 This week we have started to plan our adventure stories which will be set under the sea.
Remember about our year 2 targets... we need to use adjectives, similes, alliteration and adverbs! Why don't you comment below with a fantastic descriptive sentence that you can use in your story this week... Over the last few weeks 2LW have been exploring the freezing cold Polar Regions!
We have located these regions on a map and found out about a famous explorer called Robert Falcon Scott. Your challenge... Find out all you can about Robert Falcon Scott's adventures and explorations and comment below with your findings... Calling all explorers and adventurers! This week I would like you to research all about Bear Grylls. If you don't know already, find out: Who he is... What he does... Which countries he had been too... Any other information you can!! Use your research skills on the Internet to find out as much as you can. Use photographs, non-fiction writing and interviews or videos to help you. Miss Witham 😀 This week we have started our new theme! We will become explorers over the next term and explore the rainforest, the polar regions, the outback and under the sea!
This week we have been learning about the rainforest! We have thought about what we already know and what we would like to find out about during this theme. Can you do some research and answer the following...?
As an added extra you could comment below and describe the rainforest using your senses! Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday morning! Have a lovely weekend! Miss Witham :) We read the story of Peter Rabbit today!

We celebrated our love for stories and lots of different books. We started the day by sharing our favourite books from home. Then we read the story Peter Rabbit together as a class. We thought about the main character and how we could describe him in our Big Write tomorrow. After lunch we wrote book reviews and created new front covers for our favourite books from home. We also read some books using Oxford Owl which was great fand r the whole class.
Comment below ... What was your favourite part of today? Who is your favourite author? Did you like the story of Peter Rabbit? Which words could you use to describe Peter Rabbit? |
