This week we are reading 'The Bog Baby'. We had a dough gym session, where we danced and squashed and squeezed and rolled dough to help strengthen our muscles for writing, and then challenged the children to use the dough to create their own bog baby. Everyone used different materials and tools to get creative!
The boys and girls made some Easter cakes... chocolate cornflake nests are Miss Bell's favourites! The children talked about what happened when the chocolate was warmed, and waited patiently for it to cool again! They talked about melting, which links to 'Understanding the World'.
The boys and girls have been learning about the Easter story. We had lots of interesting discussions about what Christians and Muslims believe. We talked about the symbolism of Easter eggs as a representation of new life, during Spring and Jesus' resurrection. The children then hunted for Easter eggs outside! A special thank you to Meru's mum who sent eggs with a treat inside for all of the Reception boys and girls!
This week the children in Reception received a video from Old MacDonald asking for some help! They have been super problem solvers! The children have been learning to add, subtract, double, halve and share!
Can you invent your own number problem? The children in Reception have been talking about helping each other, challenging themselves and reflecting on their own learning. The children at Pikes Lane are encouraged to develop a growth mindset, and this starts with our youngest children in EYFS. The children have been talking about things they are good at, things they have got better at, and things they find tricky. They have looked at the progress they have made in their learning journeys. They have super coached their friends to get better at things they find tricky. The children are always encouraged to challenge themselves.
The children have dressed up in red for Comic Relief and donated money. We talked about why we give money to charity, and who the money would help.
Pikes Lane raised over £400 for Comic Relief - thank you to everyone who donated! 6 chicks hatched from our egg delivery. The children have been extremely lucky to watch them pipping (where the chicks use their beak to peck from inside the egg) and hatching! We have all fallen in love with the chicks, and the children have been very gentle when holding them. The children have learnt so much about chicks, their life cycle and caring for animals. It has been a really great experience and links to 'Understanding the World'.
