The LitterBusters! group continues to grow and we have now welcomed more members from across Year 5 and Year 6. Tidy teams now operate daily 'litterpicks' throughout the week at break times and lunch time. Please see the Eco News board for the latest 'tidy team' list and timetable. | |

Click on the links to the right to find out more information about recycling, play games and more. Thank you to LitterBuster Heena for researching the 'Recycle Now' website. Don't forget to let us know if you come across any useful 'green' websites. We would love to hear from you.
The LitterBusters! started their first litter pick of the new year wearing their striking, new, green LitterBusters! coats. As well as providing the team with protection against the elements whilst on their litter picks the green coats will also raise the profile of the group, allowing children, staff and visitors to the school to be able to identify the LitterBusters! and inform them of any litter hot spots. Don't forget to talk to the LitterBusters! about any eco concerns you may have or any eco work you may be involved in. We would love to hear all about it!
Well done to all the children in Year 4 and the LitterBusters! for taking part in Bolton Council's 'Love Bolton Hate Litter' campaign day on Tuesday the 4th of July. In just two hours the children collected over 30 bags of rubbish from the streets around Pikes Lane, making a massive positive impact on their local environment. Some of the more obscure findings during the litter pick included a golfing umbrella, a leather jacket, an ipad case, and a suitcase! The LitterBusters! have been busy creating their own anti litter posters. They have done a fantastic job of incorporating the 'Anti Litter' and 'Reduce Reuse Recycle' Eco message into their designs in an eye catching and thought provoking way. Well done LitterBusters! We would love to see what you think about the effectiveness of these posters. Please feel free to leave a comment. What is Eco Art? Eco art is artwork created by an artist concerned with the state of our environment. Reception children and their grown-ups have been learning to re-use and recycle materials in creative and innovative ways during Family Eco Art Club. Each week the children have been using junk to create inspiring and original pieces of art and other creative projects. Eco art can help to teach us about environmental problems. It can help us to find ways to respect our environment. If you feel inspired by the Family Eco Artists click on the links below to find instructions of how to make your own Eco crafts. The LitterBusters! were enthusiastic about sharing their ideas to form the anti-litter action plan. We are keen to improve our understanding of the current situation and it was suggested that interviewing key staff such as the Site Manager, senior leaders and children in the school would help. Ideas such as designing awareness materials including posters and social media campaigns were put forward. Next steps also include performing an audit of waste and recycling facilities around school and identifying litter 'hot spots.' November 2014 saw the beginning of new anti-litter club the 'LitterBusters!' Our new eco-conscious campaign group has formed to combat the issue of littering within the Pikes Lane community. In our first meeting an anti-litter action plan was devised to tackle the problem using a strategy of increasing awareness and getting stuck in with a weekly litter pick! Pickers at the ready!...
