Here are the children voting for who they would like to be class leader, each candidate had to explain why they wanted to be class leader and then the rest of the class voted for one child using a wooden coin. Well done to Hella and Khalid who became class leaders for the day.
This week the nursery children have been exploring British Values, we have looked at a different value each day and have talked about voting, rules, helping each other and celebrating our individuality. Here are the children voting for who they would like to be class leader, each candidate had to explain why they wanted to be class leader and then the rest of the class voted for one child using a wooden coin. Well done to Hella and Khalid who became class leaders for the day. Here are some images of the children respecting each other and sharing their resources: We also discussed how everybody has the right to believe in their own religion and that we should still respect each other. As we were also learning about our local community we decided to create a mosque using images from the local area.

The children were surprised to be greeted by lily pads dotted aroud the school, they spent the day engaging in frog related activities and read the story 'Tuesday.' After reading the story the children discovered the lily pads were left by flying frogs. The nursery children enjoyed painting frogs and creating frog faces, using play dough to make a frog, practising their scissor control by cutting out frogs and exploring in the frog slime.
The children then tasted a range of pears including an avocado pear, they talked about the smells, tastes and textures. The children they created a tally chart of which fruit they liked the most. Why not ask your child about which pear they liked the most and why?
This term the children in nursery have been learning all about 'People Who Help Us' and have enjoyed learning about a wide range of occupations. This week the children interviewed a child from reception and talked about the medicine she has to take and some of the children interviewed a new mum. The children asked lots of questions about how to look after the baby and how often you have to go to the doctors/hospital. The children were very inquisitive. Here are some pictures of baby Max and his mum Nicola: The children really enjoyed talking to the visitors and were very well behaved.
The EYFS children were very lucky to have a visit from Bolton Fire Service. The nursery children got a chance to talk to the fire fighters, use their hoses and look at the Fire Engine. The children in nursery had a practice fire drill and worked together to put out our role play fire area. Thank you to Bolton Fire Service for our special visit.
The children have been baking bread, they worked together taking turns, sharing resources and all had a go to mix the ingredients. First, the children each placed a cup of bread flour into a bowl, they then each added a tea spoon of yeast, one tablespoon of salt and two cups of warm water. The children took it in turns to mix the sticky dough, they then all got very hands on and kneaded, squashed and squeezed the dough. The dough was then split and each child moulded the dough into a small ball and placed it on a baking tray. The bread was then left to prove (which means the air makes the bread rise) and then they were baked for 20 minutes.
This week the nursery children visited the farm, we were so lucky to get to see some wonderful animals and meet 'Farmer Steve.' The children started their journey by travelling on the coach to the farm, all the children were so well behaved. Once we got to the farm we learnt all about different eggs and they change as they arm warmed up by mother hen. We then were very lucky and were able to feed the two donkeys Linford and Beth, they both love carrots, we were taught all about their teeth and even got to see their hooves being trimmed. We then explored the farm, feeding the goats, chickens and sheep. We collected fresh eggs and ended the session with a snack. A big thanks to Farmer Steve at Ladybridge Farm, thank you for letting us explore the farm.
The children have been learning about the produce we get from animals on the farm, today we had a focus on milk. The children talked about how we get milk from cows. The children worked with Miss Mcdermott to create milkshakes. Each child cut, mashed and mixed the fruit then added milk and little bit of ice cream. The children then watched as the milkshake blended. The children then enjoyed their milkshake, they talked about how it smelt and tasted... and I have to say they were delicious. The children this week have been learning about corn and how it helps to feed the animals on the farm. This was a sensory and language building activity which, allowed the children to talk about the process, the children commented on the smells, tastes, textures and sounds "listen it goes pop, pop, pop" said Mahira. The children watched the kernels pop in a pan and change into popcorn. . After the popcorn had finished popping, the children added a flavour to their bowl. The children enjoyed a small portion of popcorn with their snack. This activity encouraged a lot of questioning such as; "How does the corn turn into popcorn?" Iris. "Why does it taste so nice?" Layla Patel. "Where did the corn come from?" Adel. Why not ask your child about.. popcorn and comment on the blog below.
