Recently in the news there has been a lot of talk about robots! Robots are artificial intelligence, where a computer programme can be controlled and complete tasks. Some people are afraid that robots could take our jobs, others feel we can transfer our skills and do something robots cannot. You are children of the 'digital age,' technology such as iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Laptops, Drones are normal. So in the future will the same jobs exists? Now there are jobs such as App developers, Game designers, Researchers in new technologies and Cloud Computing Managers...these are jobs that never existed when I was your age! What sort of jobs will exist in the next 20 years? Do you think robots will take your jobs? Welcome back Pikes Laners... looking forward to another year of fun and excitement at Pikes Lane Primary! This morning our Class of 2015 graduated from Pikes Lane Primary School! We had many laughs and tears too! Well done for being such amazing pupils, we will miss you all!
With a few nerves, jitters and butterflies, our wonderful Year 6 pupils are performing for KS1 today! Well done Year 6 and a big THANK YOU to Mr B for all his hard work in turning you all into budding performers!
Today we successfully launched our second 1:1 Family iPad Programme! Pupils and parents were introduced to iTunes U and how it allows them to develop a greater understanding of workflow between school and home. In addition to this, parents learnt how pupils submit work digitally allowing teachers to feedback. At PLPS we continue to prepare, empower and enskill our children for the future world of work in a fun, engaging and exciting way! The time for our annual adventure holiday has arrived. We will spend the weekend working as a team, taking risks and developing our thinking skills, doing a range of activities, such as: climbing, canoeing, raft building, zip wiring, swinging, archery and lots more. On Thursday 16th April, Pikes Lane Primary became the first state school in the local area that have 1 to 1 iPads for Year 6. Pupils are engaging in the 'flip learning' model where learning continues at home beyond the school day. Pupils have pre-learning tasks in preparation for lessons the next day! Pikes Lane has become a leading school in effectively using mobile devices to enhance children's learning, in turn progress and attainment! At Pikes Lane we aim to break down every barrier to learning! Play the video below to learn about our journey! Next week sees the start of our arts week! The theme for this year's Art week is 'Britain' and pupils will be learning all about British artists, inspirational figures and iconic British symbols and buildings. Some of the work created this week will be on display at the Easter Fair on Thursday 26th March. Parents can also create their own 'Little Work of Art' and if they wish send these to the BBCs 'Little Painting challenge'. It's a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it's a celebration of reading. In fact, it's the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
