What is RAM?
Year 6 wanted to explore the inside of a Computer for the next part of their learning journey, they looked at different components, how binary number system work and data is stored. Great work Zainud-Deen! Hard drives store data!

Do Computers speak in English, Spanish or German? No In order for us to understand how programming works we need to understand how computers speak. Computers use a system of on/off to generate codes, these codes are what we interpret as 1s and 0s. These codes then convert to something we can read and understand such as letters and words. Computers use a Base-2 Number System called the Binary Number System. Binary numbers are 0 and 1. We use the Base-10 Number system consisting of digits 0-9, the Denary (or Decimal) Number system! Encode the Binary to Denary:
10100 01111 00111 00101 10100 01000 00101 10010 10111 00101 00011 00001 01110 00010 00101 10100 01000 00101 00010 00101 10011 10100 In the next CS lesson we will look at converting to letters! At Pikes Lane we are fortunate enough to use different spaces around the school to help with our learning. As iPads are portable, we are easily able to take them with us to complete tasks independently in corridors, classrooms, outdoors , reception or library. The Genius Bar is made of 11 Genii who have excellent skills in navigating the iPad, key productivity apps such as Keynote, Numbers, Pages, Explain Everything and Book Creator. They have superb troubleshooting skills which enable them to support, explain, teach and model to Staff and pupils! In our Computing lessons we created interactive books using book creator! We then used the media, text and content in the books. We then transferred some of these skills to create our own websites for a real audience! Have a look at screen shots of some pages on our websites. We have been learning how to program Sphero balls and Ollies using MacroLab! |
